Maine Biotechnology Information Bureau
About Us
To carry out its mission, the Maine Biotechnology Information Bureau collects and archives reports, scientific papers and information on a wide range of subjects.  This information is available to the media, organizations with an interest in biotechnology and the general public.
The Maine Biotechnology Information Bureau is governed by an independent Board of Directors with experience in crop, animal and pharmaceutical biotechnology.  Our work is supported by contributions from individuals, corporations and industry associations.
The mission of the Maine Biotechnology Information Bureau is to promote informed discourse on biotechnology issues and how they affect Maine.

The Maine Biotechnology Information Bureau engages in a variety of activities:
  • Media – Maine BioInfo maintains contact with Maine print and broadcast reporters who cover biotechnology and provides background information and sources for reporting.
  • Editorials and Letters – On subjects of state-wide interest, Maine BioInfo submits op-ed columns and letters to the editor.  Op-ed columns have been published in Maine’s major, daily and Sunday newspapers.   Letters to the editor have been published in all of Maine’s daily newspapers, numerous weeklies and Maine-published magazines.
  • Interviews and Appearances – The Executive Director of the Maine Biotechnology Information Bureau has appeared on Maine Public Television’s public affairs program, “MaineWatch” and “Maine in the Morning,” the state’s preeminent morning drive time radio show.  He has also participated in public debates and addressed civic and professional groups, including the Maine Nutrition Council.
  • Speakers – Maine BioInfo helps groups find speakers knowledgeable in biotechnology.  Maine BioInfo secured a speaker from The Hastings Center for the Maine Bioethics Network and helped the University of Maine Future Farmers of America line up speakers for a debate on crop biotechnology.
  • Education – Maine BioInfo is also a resource for secondary school educators.  Maine BioInfo recruited four Ph.D.s to score three days of high school science project presentations on genetics and biotechnology.
  • Maine BioNews — Maine BioInfo publishes Maine BioNews, the state’s oldest and most complete biotech newsletter.  Maine BioNews is the only regularly published source for biotechnology news in Maine.  Maine BioNews reports company and industry news, science news and public policy news, all with a Maine angle.  Maine BioNews also profiles Maine biotech companies.
